Stoop Kid

Here's what I wore subbing yesterday. I went to a high school, but taught multiply handicap kids, so they were  little developmentally behind. I also supervised (and I use that word lightly) another, more severe, developmentally delayed class of nonverbal kids. In the latter class there was a girl who loved looking at my watch, but she was also kind of a biter so if she got too close, she'd try to have a nibble!  Really sweet kids though, all of them. It was a fun and interesting experience. It's amazing the patience those teachers have with them.

One girl in the higher level class was telling me how she was going to be switched to be in regular classes next year as a sophomore and how excited she was. Sometimes I wish I were a more permanent in schools so I could check in with students or see how/where they end up. I mean, how much impact does a substitute have on someone? I only remember subs who we teased or were unpleasant. Maybe I'll instill some type of knowledge that they will tuck away until they need it, but can't remember where it cam from. On the other hand, when I get to teach in Korea, I will be a permanent fixture in these kids education for a whole year! They'll HAVE to remember me. How crazy is that! Someday those kids will be adults speaking English partly because of me! .... oh god, hahaha.

skirt, shoes: thrifted
tights: i don't remember
earrings, necklace: Icing (closing sale!)
watch: gift

and, uh, sorry about the wrinkles. i had just gotten home from work.

I had two kittehs join me on the photoshoot, Pinot and Chippy. I almost had a third but Bette scared Josie away! She can be kind of skittish. And I don't believe you've met Chippy yet. She's out geriatric granny cat. She is a whopping 19 year old, as far as we can remember. She's still got a lot of spunk too! Even if sometimes she look a little haggard...
also, please ignore the cat hair. we've learned to.

Highschool Daze

do you like the bug?
Heyooo! Another school outfit fromlast Thursday. I went and taught at my old high school. I've been back a few times to sub before this. I keep thinking I recognize students, but I won't know anyone still enrolled there. At least, from when I went there. I think there are just the same types of people, so they look familiar. There are the big jock guys, there are the skinny girls with their shiny, straightened hair, there are the goofy academy kids (my school has a fine arts academy), the kids that kind of scare me, and so on. I knew those kids. I was one of them. Hell, I could still pass for one*.

I also saw some real familiar faces, ones that I am supposed to recognize, the faculty. I saw an art teacher, AP English teacher, and my old band teacher (who is actually retiring this year), and a few others. It's also a comfort to know these kids are going through the same teachers as I did. Suckers. (just kidding).

so i forgot to include pictures w/o the sweater, and in turn forgot to put my headband back on. oops!
Sometimes I still miss high school. You see your friends everyday, someone feeds you, there's a routine to it... It's like it's own little world. But then I remember that I hated high school near the end and how much schoolwork and homework suck and how much you really don't like most your classmates after being with them for 4 or more years. ALSO how much more interesting being an adult can be. I'm going to ignore all the stuff about bills, work, responsibilities for right now and just remember that I can go to bars and come home however late I want. Woo! Let's celebrate adulthood by having cookies for breakfast!

I'm also set to arrive in Korea at the end of this month! Ah!!! I've been waiting a long time to go, but I'm still super nervous and anxious about being on my own in a country I've never been to. But there's no turning back now :)

Going for a walk with Bette! Pictures to come...

Adios amigos,
Anna

*BTW, I went to a band concert there in December for old time sake (I used to play the French Horn) and I got in at student price. Wooot! $1 instead of $2; that's 50% off!

Pinot Grigio

She's staring into your soul. Cute!
Meet my kitty cat, Pinot (she's a real whiner..). Marybeth found her two summers ago near her boyfriend Max's house. She was a very friendly stray cat who Marybeth couldn't help but save. She has a real bleeding heart for animals. However, we already had enough animals at the house (I think we were at 6 at that time) so Marybeth couldn't keep her. My parents aren't completely heartless, though, so Pinot lived in my dad's woodpile, and my mom would bring food out to her (my mom called her Woody. Har.).

When I came home from college for a couple weeks that summer, I volunteered to take her back to Winona, MN, where I went to school, to live with someone up there who I knew. However, my boyfriend and I fell in love with her on that car ride up and we decided we wanted her all to ourselves! Buuuut... I couldn't have pets in my apartment, and while she stayed with Cole for about a month during the summer, she spent most of her year in Winona living at the ramshackle house, fondly referred to as The Canswer House, next door to my apartment. I visited her everyday, tried to do my part picking up after her and getting food to her (the owners also had 3 cats and a dog so she was in good company), but I couldn't help but be jealous of the boys who actually got to live with her.

But now that I'm home with my parents, I get to live with my cat. It's wonderful. It's more than wonderful. It's purrfect (I couldn't resist!). I'll be going away to Korea in less than two months, though, and we'll be separated again :( I look forward to the days when I have my own apartment (here in the states) and I can come home and greet my cat and we can hang out together like the mother/daughter/best friends that we are.

Wow, have I gone on too much?

shirt: Old Navy (from waaay back)
skirt, shoes: thrifted
sweater: borrowed from Marybeth
stockings: gift from Forever 21
watch: gift

This is the outfit I wore substituting the other day. I bought this skirt the same time I found the sparkly sweater a few posts back. I needed to find more conservative skirts to wear teaching (seeing as most of my favorites are above the knee, and probably just barely appropriate). I liked this one for the length, the pleats, and the pattern on the bottom. I'm not sure what else I'll wear with it, but I'm sure I'll come up with something. I think the maroon really brightens up the whole ensemble in a nice way! And, of course, I had an opportunity to wear the thigh high stockings Marybeth bought me for Christmas. Oh, joy!

Hasta luego!

Puppies!

Maggie May (our senior puppy) and Storm O'Neill (Marybeth's daughter puppy)

Our dogs stepped in on our photo shoot today :) Though one is old and one is new, they're both puppies in our eyes.

I'm a substitute teacher while I wait to leave to teach English in South Korea. It's only been a couple weeks, but I'm having a really good time doing it. I get to set my own schedule (as to which day I want to accept a job or not), which is pretty wonderful. But also, I get to hang out with a variety of different kids! I've gotten a taste of everything from kindergarten to high school; I can't say which is my favorite yet.

I love getting dressed up for the "teacher" role though! Especially for elementary, because I put together more exaggerated outfits (today's theme was polka dots).

My socks are a little uneven, but that's how they came! (they were on sale, what can I expect?)
